People call my office (Chicago Gallery News) all the time looking for information on having an event in a gallery.  So we got smart a while back and decided to ask all the galleries if they rent space out, for what occasions, and if they allow booze, dancing, etc. 

We just updated this handy little list this week, with some extra info from larger arty venues like the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Zhou Brothers Art Center. 

Galleries do offer an unconventional, elegant setting for a special event, but you have to do a little homework to find just the right spot.  Rental fees can often be more reasonable than other venues, but keep in mind you have to bring in all catering, bar, tables, etc. And you can't go overboard with decorations since there is already art on the walls... 

But if you're looking for something unique and intimate, a gallery might just be perfect for your next event - or even an upcoming wedding. Galleries are also great for nonprofit receptions/fundraisers or corporate outings.
