Andrea's Bio

Not usually one for the typical bar scene, Andrea has always looked for different forms of entertainment and nightlife. During her time at Columbia College, Andrea's love of off-beat entertainment grew from her class elective courses like "Exploring the Goddess" and "Jewelry Making" and the eclectic school atmosphere. She began visiting comedy clubs and off-beat theaters as well as seeking employment in atypical venues. (You'll find both Medieval Times and Tommy Gun's Garage on her college-days resume). Andrea has been tap dancing since she was 3 years old. Her talent grew from the days of "On the Good Ship Lollipop" to performing with top tap professionals. You can find her making regular appearances with Reggio "The Hoofer" McLaughlin. When she's not tapping and scouting the alternative entertainment world, Andrea works as a public relations professional at a PR agency.

Andrea's Questionnaire

Q: Favorite local Chicago artist or performer?

A: My favorite Chicago artist is Michelle L'amour, one of the most famous ladies in modern burlesque. Aside from the fact that she is fabulous, she has done so much to bring the burlesque artform back into the Chicago scene.

Q: Most interesting event of 2010 so far?

A: The Edvard Munch exhibit is powerful and delightfully educational.

Q: Weirdest/Wildest thing you’ve ever seen on stage or in a gallery/museum?

A: It's no longer on display, but a few years ago the Art Institute had an untitled piece by an artist dedicated to his partner who died of an AIDS-related illness. The piece was a 175-pound pile of colorful, cellophane-wrapped candies piled in a corner that viewers were encouraged to take from. The 175 pounds corresponded to the partner’s ideal body weight and as the pile diminished the candies were replaced.

Q: Best performance or exhibition you've ever seen?

A: There have been so many amazing shows and touring companies that have come through Chicago, but I love the flashy, staple Broadway shows. My favorites have been Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat with Donny Osmond, 42nd Street and the original Chicago Wicked cast.

Q: Favorite summer arts festival?

A: This is not A&C at all, but I LOVE the Taste of Chicago! However, to do the Taste right, you have to sample crazy foods that you would not normally have every tried, and pay attention to all of the different street performers the festival attracts. You’ll find some very interesting entertainment.
