Collage sounds like something from elementary school art class, but the title Control c, control v references our everyday computer cutting and pasting. Collage can address a range of themes with found materials and ubiquitous images assembled to explore ideas through many details. The work by the young artists in this show looks at where collage is today and where it’s going. The viewer hunts for clues along the way, with some help from out-of-town artists chiming in on the conversation here in Chicago.
Insider Info: Compared to commercial galleries, apartment spaces are a little unusual to explore, so you need to make an appointment to see this exhibition. Typically, a young art school grad shows work by friends or under represented artists, and the least expensive place to do this is at home on weekends. Chicago has more than its share of these alternative galleries, but in general, not many spaces have opened this year (surprise). Ebersb9 is one of the newest - and very welcome - additions. Here are a few tips: if you’re an artist looking for representation, the gallery is currently accepting proposals; work at this gallery is also very affordable, making it a good place to start thinking about an art collection.
