In 1952 Gus and Ida Lazzerini first opened their doors. Club Lago quickly found its niche providing Northern Italian food to the warehouse district around Superior and Orleans. In 1980 photographers and art galleries created the area know as Su Hu, a Chicago version of SoHo by turning the warehouses into lofts. The neighborhood name didn’t stick but son-in-law Francesco Nardini, who then took over Club Lago, helped to ensure that it would become the cornerstone of the neighborhood. Club Lago continues to pack them in. This restaurant is now under the third generation, GianCarlo and Guido.

Insider Info: On March 18, 2009, the boiler in the building next door to Club Lago Restaurant exploded. As a result, their chimney collapsed onto this neighborhood gem and forced this legendary restaurant for the first time in fifty-seven years to close its doors. After fixing the ruined roof, the second floor, and their entire kitchen, Guido and GianCarolo are happy to announce that this restaurant will be reopening.. To show their passion for their business, Guido stopped shaving in protest of their forced closure. Now, in an attempt to raise additional money for the Multiple Sclerosis Society, you can vote on one of the six possible new styles of his beard: the Red Sox, the Chester A. Arthur, the George Clooney, the Drew Gooden, the Ibsen, or the Amish. Whichever style garners the most votes is the one he'll wear at their opening party.
