Start your St. Patty’s Day early this Saturday afternoon at The Southern. Opening their doors at noon, this Bucktown hotspot has a full day of St. Patrick’s Day fun in store for Chicagoans. The party keeps going until 3 AM with drink specials and complimentary andouille sausage chow-chow and mashed potatoes. Most importantly, if you missed the party Saturday, or are dying to go back, The Southern will have an encore celebration on the actual holiday itself, Wednesday, March 17.
Insider Info: The Southern is a bar of the newest wave of GastroPubs, meaning they are just as known for their food as they are for their potent drinks. The food here is very much southern comfort, and regulars enjoy shredded pork with pancakes, fried green tomatoes, poutine, hushpuppies and more. All cocktails cost $5. Shots of Jameson and Powers Whiskey are only $3. Drink specials include my favorite, The Southern Bomb, made with Southern Star, Jim Beam Rye Whiskey and Baileys Irish Cream.
