They've been gaining momentum as a powerhouses of indie rock with the popularity of Canadian acts like Broken Social Scene and Stars. The image of Celine Dion or Avril Lavigne as the beacon of Canadian music is fading. Metric has continued to uphold the common thread of haunting lush melodies and heartbreaking lyrics in Canadian indie rock. Emily Haines' soft vocal craftings work into a calm storm with lines like "Help, I'm alive, my heart keeps beating like a hammer." The album feels of brash nostalgia, like Haines is a best friend with lyrics that ring so true. Canada, it sure is working.
